Edward Joseph Snowden was born on June 21, 1983, Elizabeth City, North Carolina, U.S. He is a former National Security Agency subcontractor who made headlines in 2013, he collected top-secret documents regarding NSA domestic surveillance practices that he found disturbing and leaked them.

Snowden’s father was a former Coast Guard officer his mother works for the federal court in Baltimore as chief deputy clerk for administration

Edward Joseph Snowden was dropped out of high school and studied intermittently between 1999 and 2005 at a community college

He was enlisted in the army reserve as a special forces candidate in May 2004 and he was discharged four months later

In 2005 he worked as a security guard at the Center for Advanced Study of Language, a University of Maryland research facility affiliated with the NSA

Snowden demonstrated an aptitude withcomputers, and he was hired by the Central Intelligence Agency in 2006

He was given a top secret clearance and in 2007 was posted to Geneva, where he worked as a network security technician under a diplomatic cover.

In 2009, after being suspected of trying to break into classified files, he left to work for private contractors

In 2013 May Snowden requested a medical leave of absence and he took a flight to Hong Kong, where during the following month he conducted a series of interviews with journalists from the newspaper The Guardian

Footage filmed during that period was featured in the documentary called Citizenfour on june 5th 2014

On June 14, 2013, federal prosecutors charged Snowden with “theft of government Property,” “unauthorized communication of national defense information” and “willful communication of classified communications intelligence information to an unauthorized person.”
